The Essential Guide to Prayer

The Essential Guide to Prayer by Dutch Sheets is a how to book on how to pray to gain a better relationship with God.  This book is a good read.    It uses stories from his own life to relate, and really insists on how important persistence is.  Prayer needs to become a habitual practice in your life.

At the end of each section the author asks questions for you to reflect upon to gain a better understanding of your prayer life.  I really liked the real life examples, and how he tied in Bible verses throughout the book.  Overall a great read.

Wow!

Wow! The Good News in Four Words by Dandi Daley Mackall is one of the most wonderful children’s books I have found about Adam & Eve and Jesus.  The pictures are very colorful and fun to look at.  The story rhymes and is even silly at times.  My 7 year old and 4 year old love it.  There are even verses in the back for reference if you want to connect it with the Bible.  Wow! is very easy for children to relate to and very fun to listen to.

I Always Wondered

Like many people in the world I have questions about my afterlife.  As a devout Catholic, Heaven and Hell are real places that I wonder about daily.  The book, “Answering the Toughest Questions About Heaven and Hell” by Bruce Bickel & Stan Jantz does a great job deciphering what the Bible tells us about these places.  It explains whether or not Heaven and Hell even exist, what it will be like when you get there, who goes where, and countless other questions.  I enjoyed how straightforward the book was, while including scripture from the Bible.  Definitely a great read for someone interested in where they will be going once they die.

Mary a Drawn in Bible Study

I received the most beautiful book from Tyndale House Publishers, “Mary.”  It is a bible study that requires you to write and draw as you learn about Mary and her struggles.  Each section includes scripture, questions to pray about, a prayer, a reflection, and a coloring section.  The book is more of a laid back Bible study.  It’s easily relatable and very thought provoking.  I am learning a lot about Mary as well as how to be a good person through reading and studying this book.  I would recommend it for anyone in High School and up.

Tranquility

Tranquility is a prayer and reflection coloring journal.  It is an absolute wonderful journal for young and old.  Each page consists of a prayer, a scripture, and an area to write or color to reflect.

The themes are easily relatable.  Some include, choosing joy, celebrating good times, random acts of kindness, etc.  I really like that the coloring aspect is not over the top.  It was very easy for me to color a page each day while reflecting upon the prayer and scripture I had just read.  Some coloring journals are very detailed and almost impossible to finish in one sitting.  This is my favorite prayer coloring journal I have found to date.

Life After Heaven

This Lenten season has taken on a whole new experience for myself.  I’m really beginning to dive deeper into scripture and my prayer life.  Heaven and the afterlife have always been something that intrigued me.  Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick really spoke to me.

The book begins by explaining a young man’s childhood and how alone he felt.  He was always put to the side, never the center of attention.  It wasn’t until he joined the Navy, did he finally stand out and feel appreciated.  He was making great strides, and was even asked to try out for the SEALs.  While in training he received a fatal injection for swine flu and ended up dying.  He met Jesus, and loved being in Heaven.  Jesus informed him he was not able to stay yet and went back to Earth.  He then, for many years, battled horrific side effects including trouble breathing.  He ended up going to Church and being healed by Jesus.  The story continues on, but I cannot say enough good things about this book.

It is a page turner.  I read the entire book in two days; I could not put it down.  I love how throughout the book the author provides stories of how Jesus and Heaven are really a part of our every day life.  I highly recommend this book to everyone.

365 Pocket Morning Prayers

Prayer is a very important part of my everyday life.  I would like to get into the routine of setting aside time each morning for prayer.  Right now, my morning time is very rushed so I don’t have too much time to devote to prayer.

365 Pocket Morning Prayers is perfect for my lifestyle right now.  Each day has a different topic such as confidence, courage, motives, or doubt.  There is a short prayer followed by a short Bible scripture to go along with the theme.  It takes me about two minutes to read, and another minute or so to discern and focus on what God is trying to tell me.  It’s really a great tool that will help me get my mornings off to the right start.  The book is a great size as well, so it’s easy to pack for travel.

Angels

Angels%203D%20for%20LPI am a Catholic and believe 100% in angels.  I have raised my children to know that they each have a guardian angel that watches over them.  So many questions arise when I think of angels or when I speak about them to my children.

Angels, by Jack Graham, has been a great resource in helping me understand what role angels play in my own faith.   He provides many examples of how they protect, give strength, and show companionship whenever we are in need.  The book also shares exactly where in scripture angels are referred to and what their roles are.  If you truly want to know about the spiritual side of angels, this is a must read.

Gratitude

Gratitude is something I need to work on every single day of my life.  It is something I need to practice and set time aside to do.  With the book, Gratitude, A Prayer and Praise Coloring Journal, I can do just that.

Each morning or evening, I can sit down and devote myself to  becoming a more gracious person.  This particular journal is set up with a short prayer, Bible verse, space to reflect, and an area to color and express creativity while focusing on gratitude.  The journal prompts are simple, and give lots of room to dig deep into your soul.  The drawings to color are simple and mindless so you can really concentrate on the true task at hand.  I really like this journal and would recommend it to anyone who needs a little more gratitude in their lives.

God Bless America

9780735289741As this Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches it is only fitting I review a patriotic book.  God Bless America, A Patriotic Coloring Book, is a great book to slow down, relax, and express creativity as you color your way through history.

Each coloring page has a story to go along with it.  For example, a page with an army jet fighter & parachute people, also has the Pledge of Allegiance and the history behind the Pledge of Allegiance.  Some of the pages includes quotes from past presidents and influential leaders of our history.  I really like how thick each page is, so I can use many forms of color including marker to express my creativity.  This coloring book would be great for history buffs or anyone looking to relax and learn a little bit about our country.
