Life After Heaven

This Lenten season has taken on a whole new experience for myself.  I’m really beginning to dive deeper into scripture and my prayer life.  Heaven and the afterlife have always been something that intrigued me.  Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick really spoke to me.

The book begins by explaining a young man’s childhood and how alone he felt.  He was always put to the side, never the center of attention.  It wasn’t until he joined the Navy, did he finally stand out and feel appreciated.  He was making great strides, and was even asked to try out for the SEALs.  While in training he received a fatal injection for swine flu and ended up dying.  He met Jesus, and loved being in Heaven.  Jesus informed him he was not able to stay yet and went back to Earth.  He then, for many years, battled horrific side effects including trouble breathing.  He ended up going to Church and being healed by Jesus.  The story continues on, but I cannot say enough good things about this book.

It is a page turner.  I read the entire book in two days; I could not put it down.  I love how throughout the book the author provides stories of how Jesus and Heaven are really a part of our every day life.  I highly recommend this book to everyone.

doodletopia CARTOONS

Drawing has always been a passion of mine.  I recently came across the book, doodletopia CARTOONS by Christopher Hart.  It is a book on how to draw, design, and color your own super-fun cartoon creations.  I have three kids now and they loooove when I draw them pictures and then let them color them.  This book pretty much gave me an unlimited amount of ideas to draw for them.  They like it so much that I now let them look through it and pick their favorite drawing for me to draw for them.

Also what I loved about this book was the different techniques and tricks that it showed you to improve your drawings.  My drawing actually got better from just playing around with my kids with it.  So if you love to draw or even if your now really a big drawer and just a beginner but have always wanted to get better this book is a great book for everyone.

All is Bright

All is Bright is a devotional journey to color your way to Christmas.  This is by far one of the best interactive books I have received for Christmas.  Each day beginning with December 1, is a short story relating to Jesus.  Each story includes scripture as well as thought provoking questions for reflection.  On the following page is a picture to color that goes along with what was read.  I enjoyed coloring the page as I reflected upon what I just read.  It was a great time to really focus on what was really important at Christmas time.  I highly recommend this book.

The One Year Praying through the Bible for Your Kids

The One Year Praying through the Bible for Your Kids is a great devotional for parents.  I read it nightly, and it truly relates to my life on a personal level.  I like how it begins with a scripture reading, and then it ties it all together for you at the end.  A quick prayer at the end finishes each page.  It’s a great go to book when you need that extra comfort.  I highly recommend this book for parents of all ages.   Reading this Bible has made me feel as though I’m not alone, and others are going through the same thing or thinking the same things.

The Night Voyage

Adult coloring books are my new favorite thing to do.  The Night Voyage by Daria Song is a magical adventure and coloring book all in one.  Each page is really a double page of delight.  The pictures to color are very magical and dream like.  When I color it, it brings me back to my childhood as a little girl.  My favorite page is a table full of desserts.  I thoroughly enjoyed this coloring book and would recommend it to any girl, young or old.

Marked in Ink

I have always been intrigued by tattoos.  I think they are neat to look at, but could never imagine myself having one.  Maybe someday, but not anytime soon.  So, the next best thing is a coloring book filled with gorgeous tattoos.

Marked in Ink is a tattoo coloring book by Megan Massacre.  The drawings are just breathtaking.  From butterflies, to skulls, to fairies, and flowers, this book has a bit of everything for everyone.  I like how each page is blank on the back so I’m able to use markers within the book without worrying if it bleeds through.   The pictures are very detailed, but not too much that I cannot finish a page in a day.  I highly recommend this coloring book to adults of all ages and interests.

365 Pocket Morning Prayers

Prayer is a very important part of my everyday life.  I would like to get into the routine of setting aside time each morning for prayer.  Right now, my morning time is very rushed so I don’t have too much time to devote to prayer.

365 Pocket Morning Prayers is perfect for my lifestyle right now.  Each day has a different topic such as confidence, courage, motives, or doubt.  There is a short prayer followed by a short Bible scripture to go along with the theme.  It takes me about two minutes to read, and another minute or so to discern and focus on what God is trying to tell me.  It’s really a great tool that will help me get my mornings off to the right start.  The book is a great size as well, so it’s easy to pack for travel.

Angels

Angels%203D%20for%20LPI am a Catholic and believe 100% in angels.  I have raised my children to know that they each have a guardian angel that watches over them.  So many questions arise when I think of angels or when I speak about them to my children.

Angels, by Jack Graham, has been a great resource in helping me understand what role angels play in my own faith.   He provides many examples of how they protect, give strength, and show companionship whenever we are in need.  The book also shares exactly where in scripture angels are referred to and what their roles are.  If you truly want to know about the spiritual side of angels, this is a must read.

Gratitude

Gratitude is something I need to work on every single day of my life.  It is something I need to practice and set time aside to do.  With the book, Gratitude, A Prayer and Praise Coloring Journal, I can do just that.

Each morning or evening, I can sit down and devote myself to  becoming a more gracious person.  This particular journal is set up with a short prayer, Bible verse, space to reflect, and an area to color and express creativity while focusing on gratitude.  The journal prompts are simple, and give lots of room to dig deep into your soul.  The drawings to color are simple and mindless so you can really concentrate on the true task at hand.  I really like this journal and would recommend it to anyone who needs a little more gratitude in their lives.

Pop Manga Coloring Book

One of my favorite activities to do with my kids is color.  It is so nice that adult coloring books have been created so parents can color alongside their children, in a book that is at their level.

Pop_coloring_cover_sm1

Pop Manga Coloring Book by Camilla d’Errico is quite different from any other coloring book I have used or seen.  It is very bizarre and quite crazy.  Most of the pages involve a little girl doing something or wearing something a little “out there.”  For example, one page has the little girl holding an alligator, while another has her wearing a robot contraption on top of her head.  The coloring book was a little too bizarre for my taste, but I can see many other people who are more artsy who would love it.  Some of the pictures are simple to color, while others are very intricate.  Overall, it is a great coloring book, just not exactly my personal taste.
